Quareia the Apprentice Book One is the first of fifteen workbooks containing two modules each. Book One contains the first two modules of the Quareia Apprentice training and covers 'core skills', and 'patterns and maps in magic'.
The full section of the Quareia Apprentice which includes all ten modules is also available in paperback and hardback forms.
The course is spread over three sections Apprentice, Initiate, and Adept. Each section has ten modules, and each module has eight lessons. Each of the three sections is approximately five hundred thousand words it is the most extensive, in-depth, and intelligent up to date magical course that is currently available worldwide.
The methods, information and techniques in the course enable the magician to engage any form of magic and work with it appropriately with the full knowledge of how that magic works, why it works and what is behind it. It also starts to guide the magician along the mystical path, a path that reaches beyond religions and faith, and one where the adept moves into mystical union with the universe around them.
The lessons are detailed each lesson has a very practical application which in turn develops the ‘magical muscle’ within the magician, thus preparing them for the power they will be exposed to in subsequent study sections. It is not reference material or 'recipe magic' that can be dipped in and out of the understanding of the foundations comes from the dovetailing, study, and layering of magic that forms within and around the apprentice. It is designed to be self-taught, with every detail and step assigned carefully and practically. By the end of this section, the apprentice will have all of the skills, knowledge and strength to take on the challenge of the next stage of training.

The Quareia course is written in its entirety by magical adept and the Director of Quareia, Josephine McCarthy. Josephine has been involved in magic for forty years and has been teaching and writing about magic for over twenty five years. She is considered a revolutionizing force in the teaching of western magic, and one of the most prominent adepts of western magic alive today.
Quareia is a school that is open to anyone, and is free and accessible online at any time. It is a school that is entirely focused on teaching the most essential skills in magic, with unknown precision and depth in its materials. Yet it is free from any specific one style or specific religious overlay various styles and religious patterns are studied and at times worked with in depth, but there is no one creed, culture or system that forms the foundation basis of the training it is itself.

I have been practicing underworld visionary magic since I picked up R.J. Stewart's books at Samuel Weiser when they had physical bookstores in New York City in the late 70's and early 80's. Josephine gives you a complete and thorough course without putting out a book here and a book there and then never giving out full knowledge without going out to workshops around the world(which cost alot of money) in order to get more keys to put it together. She gives out clear knowledge on directional magic in the very first book of this course. Although you better work the course in the order given because everything builds upon itself. Don't try to take a piece here and a piece there because it will not work. There are deliberate blinds built into the course to prevent people from doing that. There is alot of unwritten understanding that only becomes apparent when the material is worked in order. Then you say to yourself "Aha...now I know why she says to do that and this is what she really means by saying this and that."Josephine really has done the occult community a huge favor by putting out this information so that people who are willing can initiate themselves without the need of elitist magical orders and it's ugly politics. All I can say is Thank You for your courage. I am sure writing this course and making it free must have cost her more than we can ever know.

Really goofy. Don't put your trust here.
Very easy to read and comprehend information. This instructor is plain spoken and honest. A pleasure to experience. Very highly recommended. I bought the book because I am in love with the printed word which has a power of its own; however the lessons are free online. Worth pursuing for any true seeker.
If you've never tried any of McCarthy's works, what are you waiting for? This woman knows her material and has literally paved the road for practitioners from all walks of life to connect with divinity in its numerous and plentiful expressions. Love and blessings to you JM - you've saved this man's life too many times to count, and I will forever be grateful and appreciative of your dedication to fulfilling the Great Work!
I could have saved a fortune twenty or thirty years ago if I had been able to read her books and take her classes online. Every one is crammed full of wonderful information, and best of all, she tells you about the pitfalls of magic, which is something nobody else does. She's not a liar or an armchair magician.

This is a fantastic introduction to the work. It is well written, clear, concise with no punches pulled. Josephine McCarthy writes like she is sitting next to you. It is excellent course and I have ordered the next books.
Josephine McCarthy's Quareia books overall are only for those who are serious about magical training. If you think getting through this course will be "easy" or aping the lessons just by reading the material, you will be sorely disappointed. This course is very much hands on. The first book, "Quareia The Apprentice Book One you start at ground zero - meditation. Each exercise is designed to be worked and "mastered" before moving on. These books build a solid foundation that too many courses and books lack.
I am no stranger to magical training. I've had years of experience in that area, particularly in the Kemetic (Egyptian) tradition. Even with that, it took me a number of months of going at the first lesson over and over again before I got to where I felt competent enough to move on. For the second lesson, even though I am a competent tarot reader and have read professionally - starting with a solid foundation is absolutely key. Too many books on tarot "psychologize" the would-be tarot reader to death. The symbols have meanings that have been used over centuries and discarding that in favor of psychobabble does both the tool and the one wielding the tool a great disservice. Josephine not only explains why a magician does something by boring the reader with facts. She makes sure that the student understands it on a practical, hands-on level. Anyone can be a parrot and pretend to have the skills that are outlined. In this course, you will definitely know that you do.
There are no shortcuts, there no b.s.ing your way through it. I love that Josephine is very much to the point. Unlike many occult / magical writers on the scene, Josephine McCarthy will not insult your intelligence and you very much end up respecting hers. She does this by not blowing a bunch of new age terminology and vapid verbiage at the reader. She gives great information, inserts historical facts where its pertinent and she above all gives value in what she writes. You the reader are expected to follow through. There is no mollycoddling here and I find that refreshing.
Even if you are familiar with and have read her Magical Knowledge Series, the Quareia course goes further. Though the volume may seem thin, the content is not. The reader will note that this book illustrates quite clearly that there is a distinct difference between simply reading a magical book and actually working its contents.
